Accutane
Accutane (isotretinoin) is a topical form of vitamin A used by people diagnosed with severe nodular acne who are unable to control this skin condition using any other methods. It’s very important that you take this drug exactly as recommended and avoid using it in case of being pregnant or breastfeeding. Accutane is FDA pregnancy category X – it will cause birth defects in a baby when taken by an expectant mother and these defects can be life-threatening. Both mild and serious side effects are possible if you are taking Accutane, although serious side effects are quite rare. The following are considered to be mild side effects and you do not have to report them to your health care provider unless they become very bothersome or change in intensity: peeling skin, drowsiness, dry mouth or lips, nervousness, itching, joint pain, rash, dizziness, dry skin, and back pain. The dose you are prescribed depends on a number of factors, and the health conditions you have or used to have may be important in determining your dose. You will need to inform your doctor of any of the following ones you have: heart disease, a personal history of depression, bone disorders, high triglycerides, diabetes, a history of mental illness, asthma, high cholesterol, liver disease, or any eating disorder.
